We see a lot of piping in plants like Oil & Gas, Hydro Power, chemical industries for generating power or for transmitting fluid or offshore rig in oil and gas.
Onsite services like Pipe cutting and Pipe beveling play an important role in piping industry to make a continuous long pipe, to install valves between pipes, to install pressure gauges and other safety and measuring instruments, and during repair and maintenance work for operating efficiently and safely.
Pipe cutting or pipe profiling are one of the onsite services that cut pipes to create a desired profile. Typical profiles include straight cuts and miter cuts.
Factors involved in choosing a method or technology for cutting pipes are
When welding two pipes together, the ends of the pipe must be properly prepared to obtain the best weld joint. The pipe is typically bevelled on the ends to accommodate the joining of the two pieces by forming a “V’ between them. This is called pipe Bevelling.
This pipe bevelling can have different angles, forms, and other characteristics depending on the size of the pipe, wall thickness, material grade, and the method of welding. The angle is typically 37.5 degrees on one pipe and for welding the included angle would become 75 degrees. The popular and most preferred forms are bevel and J type.
The benefits of using high precision and automated pipe cutting and pipe beveling tools are to save time, to achieve accuracy with consistency in final dimensions. Additionally, it avoids human error, reduces manpower involvement, and enhances job safety.
There are 2 methods of pipe cutting preferred depends on the environmental safety – Cold cutting or Hot cutting. Cold cutting is preferred in environments where hot cutting is not possible due to fire safety.
It can be classified based on its holding type of the pipe – OD mounted and ID mounted. Portable pipe cutting and pipe beveling machines are available in several configurations. In portable machines, machine will be taken onsite for pipe cutting and pipe beveling. Generally, these are used in the field for either new construction or maintenance operations. These machined can be powered either electrically or pneumatically or with hydraulically.
Stationary pipe cutting and pipe beveling machines are exclusively designed for high production cutting and bevelling of pipes. In these machines, the pipe is moved to the machine for processing.
